I graduated from Leeds medical school in 2005 and was appointed as a consultant in Newcastle in 2015. During my basic surgical training an inspiring SHO job in Bradford Royal infirmary led me to him jump ship from orthopaedics to pursue a career in plastic and reconstructive surgery. While working as registrar in Cape Town I got a national training number (NTN) in Yorkshire and did sub-specialty training in Chelmsford, Vienna and Brisbane.
My senior fellow post at the Princess Alexandra Hospital Brisbane largely involved adult oncology and shaped my consultant career as a core member of the Northern Head and Neck, Soft tissue and Bone tumour units and skin cancer teams in Newcastle hospitals. I also provide a tertiary service covering the North of England and beyond for complex facial tumour management and adult skull base reconstruction. My particular focus is adult head, neck and facial oncology, and my research is focused on integrating digital health solutions for navigational surgery, patient reported outcomes in surgical oncology and the development of educational tools for cosmetic surgery patients.
I am a keen educator and have developed a plastic surgery teaching fellow post for my unit and contribute as faculty for national and international courses in microsurgery. I've also built a reputation for international collaboration and holds an academic post at Queensland University Medical School and am an international educator for the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgeons.
