Council Member for the North East of England

Omar A. Ahmed has been a Consultant at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since February 2005. He has extensive experience in reconstructive surgery, specialising in Head and Neck Cancer, Facial Paralysis, and Skin Cancer. In 2006 he was instrumental in setting up the Northern Facial Nerve Centre, the first and only one-stop clinic for the management of patients with facial paralysis in the North East of England. 

Mr Ahmed is a plastic surgery representative on BAHNO Council, a member of the BAPRAS Microsurgery Committee, and a medical advisory board member of Facial Palsy UK. He is a past chairman of the Head and Neck Special Interest Group of BAPRAS. He has been an examiner for the Intercollegiate Board Examination in Plastic Surgery (FRCS Plast) since 2015 and is a member of the Specialty Training Committee in the North East of England. He has published extensively and remains actively involved in clinical research. He is an Associate Editor of PRS, and a regular journal reviewer for PRS, JPRAS, Head & Neck, and Clinical Otolaryngology.
