About the course:
This one-day intermediate level course is aimed at trainees who already have some experience of local flap techniques and ideally will be able to promptly put into practice what they learn on this course. Trainees will work in pairs on each cadaveric head with the support of a Consultant faculty member at each dissection table. To make the most of the material and the time, necessarily the flaps will be divided between left and right sides.
The day is intended to cover the planning and raising of:
- Bilobed flaps;
- paramedian forehead flap;
- 2-stage interpolated nasolabial flap with cartilage grafting;
- Antia-Buch flap;
- V-Y island pedicle flap;
- hatchet flap;
- Mustarde cheek rotation flap;
- cervicofacial flap;
- scalp rotation flaps;
- scalp transposition flap;
- Tenzel flap;
- Hughes modified tarsconjunctival flap;
- myocutaneous advancement flap;
- orbicularis oculi island flap (LOOP flap);
- trapdoor flap;
- rhomboid flaps.
The intention is not just to learn which flaps go where, but to gain an appreciation of the principles involved in flap design and flap dissection, with the emphasis on practical instruction rather than didactive teaching.
