The Travelling Surgical Society of Great Britain and Ireland is pleased to invite applications for the 2024 Price Thomas Prize
13th June 2024
The Travelling Surgical Society of Great Britain and Ireland is a group of surgeons, that travels to various hospitals and surgical departments around the world and in Great Britain and Ireland. They hold academic and clinical meetings with the purpose of encouraging educational and surgical exchanges. The Price Thomas Prize offers the opportunity to senior trainees and newly appointed consultants to present their work to a different audience.
This year’s meeting will celebrate 100 years since the Society was founded by Lord Berkeley Moynihan and will be held in the Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street, London on Friday, 20th September 2024. Successful applicants will be supported to attend the Price Thomas Session in person and the winner will receive a certificate and a cash prize.
Application is open to surgeons who are resident in Great Britain and Ireland. Surgeons from any of the surgical specialties may apply including those with an interest in Trauma or Military Surgery. Applicants should be senior registrars (ST6 or above, senior clinical fellows or consultants within 3 years of appointment to first substantive post). SAS doctors and locally employed surgeons of similar standing may also apply.
Abstracts (<250 words) should be from original research work for which the presenter was a principal investigator. Clinical or basic science research is welcome. Overviews of new and evolving aspects of surgery are also welcome, especially since the audience is likely to represent a wide range of surgical disciplines. The Society has a particular interest in surgical and military surgical history. Presentations should be 10 minutes each with an additional 5 minutes allowed for questions.
Abstracts should be forwarded to the Honorary Secretary, Mr Graham T Sunderland by e-mail to gtsunderland@gmail.com by 14 July 2024.
