Ex-BAPRAS President to receive OBE
14th January 2019
BAPRAS are delighted to announce that ex-President, Professor Simon Kay, who performed the UK’s first double hand transplant and has been awarded an OBE for his contribution to complex reconstructive surgery.
Professor Kay's reaction:
Being awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list was an unusual experience. When asked by Radio Five how I felt about it, I said it does what it says on the tin: it is an honour. I also pointed out that having served on many committees that assess performance in doctors, there are many many doctors out there doing very remarkable and important work above the simple call of duty whose great achievements are largely unrecognized. Whilst that doesn’t diminish the personal impact of my own award, it does remind me that I am simply lucky to have been noticed. So thank you to whoever nominated me!
BAPRAS President, Mark Henley had the following to say:
Simon Kay is an exemplar of good plastic surgery practice combining innovative thinking with technical excellence and above all a focus on providing holistic care to his patients.
He is an inspiration to us all and his OBE is very well deserved recognition of his contributions.
