Dublin plays host to international plastic surgery conference
27th November 2013
BAPRAS today starts its annual winter scientific meeting in Dublin, to discuss plastic surgery innovation.
The meeting is being held for the first time outside of the UK and in partnership with the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons (IAPS) at The Convention Centre in Dublin, from 27 to 29 November.
Sessions at the meeting will include breast surgery, lower limb trauma, paediatric surgery, lipofilling, hand surgery, burns and skin malignancy, with invited lectures from plastic surgeons from Switzerland, Finland, Germany, India, the USA and Canada. BAPRAS will also launch a new code of practice defining the professional standards members must meet in order to maintain the highest standards of patient safety and care.
Guest lectures will include Training in Aesthetic Surgery, Visions for the Future of Breast Cancer Surgery in the Next 20 years, Fat Grafting and Charitable Works. The inaugural Sushruta-Guha lecture on burns surgery will be given on Friday 29 November by Professor Stephen Milner in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
The annual President’s Prize will also be awarded to showcase and reward outstanding research that has been undertaken by BAPRAS members.
BAPRAS President and consultant plastic surgeon Graeme Perks said:
“It is an honour to host our meeting here in Dublin, working alongside IAPS to showcase new developments in patient treatment, from breast reconstruction to paediatric surgery, and launch our new code of practice for members to drive professional standards.
“This meeting welcomes plastic surgery experts from across the globe to celebrate new developments in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, and importantly share best practice and initiatives to further transform the lives of patients in Ireland, the UK and across the world.”
