BAPRAS attends Global Leadership Forum

25th May 2012

BAPRAS has this week represented the interests and ambitions of the British plastic surgery profession at the 2012 Global Leadership Forum in Munch, Germany.

Leading figures from professional surgical associations from around the world gathered on Thursday (24th May) with representatives also attending from the USA, Ireland, New Zealand, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland.

The agenda for the summit included:
-Breast Reconstruction Guidelines
-PIP
-Brest Device Registries
-Impact of regulations on education
-New initiatives from global association members

BAPRAS President Richard Milner and Chairman of BAPRAS Professional Standards Committee Tim Goodacre attended on behalf of British plastic surgeons.

Tim Goodacre said: “This was a very significant meeting, with people coming together from around the world to share ideas, discover commonalties and learn new initiatives that will help advance the world of plastic surgery.

“Some members of the group have met before - in Denver and then San Francisco - but the momentum for the group is now increasing, with the generous support and drive of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This was the first such meeting outside the US, and important as such. The next meeting will be in New Orleans at the ASPS annual meeting, but we hope there will also be at least an informal get-together of some members of the group at the BAPRAS annual Winter Scientific Meeting in London.

“The meeting was very productive. Understandably, much of the discussion focussed on continued efforts around the world to advance patient safety and best professional practice in all aspects of our work. There was a particularly useful exchange of international experience on the PIP implant situation, and we look forward to sharing what was learnt with our colleagues and patients in the UK.”
