The BFIRST 'Just 1 Case' Project

Who Are We?
BFIRST was founded by BAPRAS and is a volunteer organisation that relies on its members to go and train surgeons in some of the poorest regions of the world. BFIRST, which stands for British Foundation of International Reconstructive Surgery and Training, is a consultant-led service whereby local surgeons are trained by visiting consultants who are experts in their fields. 

What do we do?
The focus is very much on designing and delivering a community-oriented curriculum. To date, we are actively involved in a few projects in some of the world’s most deprived countries, including Cambodia, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. We know that many deformities and disabilities caused by trauma, burns and cancer can be corrected by reconstructive plastic surgical techniques, giving this largely neglected group of patients a chance of hope and a better life. 

How can you help?
As a charity, BFIRST relies heavily on donations and support from members and the public. The proceeds from donations will go straight into funding one of the ongoing missions of BFIRST in supporting overseas projects, training surgeons through fellowships or buying essential equipment to help ongoing BFIRST missions. 

Just 1 Case“Just 1 Case”
To help our efforts in fundraising, we are launching an innovative scheme In 2016 called the “Just 1 Case”. This project is to encourage BAPRAS members to donate the proceeds of just one of their cases to BFIRST. Any consultant who donated under this scheme will receive an official letter of receipt from the BFIRST secretariat and an official “Just 1 Case” logo that they can put on their own website. 

To donate just one case, go to: bfirst.org.uk/donate and follow the instructions. Please also send an email to info@bfirst.org.uk to let the Secretariat know you have donated under this scheme.
